For many years, Dan Kimball would have agreed, until an encounter with a small group of Jesus followers started him on a journey that challenged him to rethink everything he had ever assumed about the church. Mainly all of his closest friends were not Christians, so he desired to be able to intelligently explain and know why Christianity was a faith which made sense. That type of community will be something that people will go out and invite people to. Upon returning to Santa Cruz after graduating from Multnomah Seminary, he became high school pastor at Santa Cruz Bible Church working with teenagers in what became a large youth ministry along with Josh Fox.
Some Christians have such a negative view of non-believers that it prevents them from having any kind of meaningful dialogue.
It really inspired me to be much more intentional in my own studies At first I wasn't really impressed with the book, but the more I read it and looked dwn my own life and te people iigreja I'm around is when it really started to grow on me.
Although it might have been safe to assume that everyone--regardless of whether a person was a Christian, went to church, or had ever been to church--knew the basic ideas of Christianity, sin, etc.
Worthy of a read if only to potentially challenge one's stance on the issues discussed. I don't think Kimball's book was the source of all of these thoughts, but it certainly reflects the 'spirit of the age' as I remember it. Insights from Emerging Generations by Dan Kimball. The key with this book is to skip past the author's opinions, and just focus on what he's doing It is difficult to hear the negative perceptions many have of Christians.
It is a good read for those who have entered the Christian bubble, surrounding themselves with only church-related friends, activities, interests, etc.
They Like Jesus but Not the Church: Insights from Emerging Generations
This book presented a clear picture of a problem igeja the the church has connecting with and sharing the love of Jesus with the emerging generation.
His primary goal is to open the eyes of the church regarding how the western world views Christianity. However, there were some points at which I didn't agree with the author as much.

I don't agree with everything in this book.
Besides for our own diffidence, we also have to deal with the loss of the community-based aspect of church. Kmball bought this a igeja ago because it looked interesting enough to get me to pull it off the shelf. Of course we're also British which means we're quite apologetic and polite about things. I found the book interesting and readable but Christians here are missionaries in a different culture and so we need to learn different lessons. Jun 02, Krampus Mark rated it did not like it.
Return to Book Emfrgente. I notice that a lot of churches I don't agree with everything in this book. Kimball emphasizes the need to form friendships first, listen to what others believe, understand what attracts them They Like Jesus but not the Church is a must read for those who want to reach emerging generations while speaking the truth.

Because he felt he wanted to dedicate all his time to serving in the church, he went to Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon and graduated with a Graduate Certificate in Bible.
